Over 10,000 complaints about disrepair of bike lanes

UTRECHT - Last year, the Cyclists Union received 10,000 complaints about conditions of bicycle lanes throughout the country. The association passed the remarks on to the affected municipalities and road repairs were made since in hundreds of cases. There are 22,000 kilometres of dedicated bike paths in the Netherlands, often running parallel to highways. According to the Cyclists Union, some 20,000 people were injured last year as a result of road disrepair. Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam and neighbouring Maasluis top the list of bad roads, with complaints about loose paving stones, cracks, exposed tree roots and other road hazards. The bike lane between Amsterdam and nearby Muiden was most frequently cited for disrepair.
