Growing wild boar population encroaches on humans

DRIEBERGEN – As a densely populated country, the Netherlands is continually making adjustments to accommodate a huge number of domesticated animals as well as those living in the wild. Rising populations easily encroach on each other’s habitat. The latest example is the growing number of wild boars in the central part of the country, the Veluwe. This region has vast areas undeveloped areas dotted by villages and camping sites, and surrounded by steadily growing towns. The wild boar problem is exacerbated by their increasingly aggressive behaviour towards humans when searching for food around camping grounds and homes. The animals will try to ram doors and chew or pull down tents to obtain food. Additionally, an increasing number of wild boars have caused traffic accidents when they stray onto or attempt to cross roads.
