Bomb removal squads still busy after 65 years
Tags: Excerpts from the Windmill
DORST – The army’s Explosives Removal Service (EOD) keeps busy defusing and detonating bombs, artillery shells and other ammunition discovered below the service during excavation or other work. Walkers alerted the bomb squad when they saw unexploded bombs in a hole next to a tree near the central Dutch community.of Dorst. One of the bombs was partially arched over by a sizable root of the tree, making the removal of the bomb an extra challenging project. Most of the explosives were made by the Allies who dropped them over the Netherlands during World War II, aiming to cripple the German occupation forces.
