Centuries-old horse market day rated a success

ZUIDLAREN – Wet and cold! The early hours of the 811th edition of the annual horse market day did not look promising it all but turned into a beautiful day once the sun broke through the cloud cover. The breakthrough brought out a happy throng of onlookers, giving the market day its customary ‘gezellige’ atmosphere, a key ingredient for such community events. One of the largest of its kind in Europe, the Zuidlaren venue attracted 2,096 horses and 30 donkeys, a bit more than last year’s 2,043 horses and 13 donkeys.
