Founded to serve Philips’ employees

SCARBOROUGH, Ontario - The oldest branch of DUCA Community Credit Union Limited literally moved into the community when it reopened in a new location recently. The branch had been operating from the Philips Electronics plant where it originally was started as the first full-fledged branch of the credit union. The relocated branch now is open six day a week and has an ATM facility.
DUCA’s Philips’ branch opened in 1976 and was moved last month. Many Scarborough members of DUCA originally opened their account at its compact Philips branch, a fact noted by the credit union’s General Manager Jack Vanderkooy during the opening ceremony of the modern, new and much expanded (retail plaza) location. DUCA expressed its appreciation to Philips’ officials for accommodating them with space at the plant.
In addition to its head office in the Toronto suburb of Willowdale, DUCA operates ten area branches in the region bordered by the towns of Brampton, Oshawa and Orangeville. The credit union which was founded by Dutch immigrants in 1954, has earned a reputation for its innovative moves and independent approach to credit union issues. DUCA has assets of $313 million.
The cooperative bank is headed by CEO Mr. Cees Bijl and Board Chairman Mr. Marten Mol.
