AMSTERDAM - To stimulate the use of bicycles on the city’s congested streets and thoroughfares, Amsterdam has earmarked $122 million to be spent in the next five years. The program calls for more, improved and guarded bike parking, new dedicated bicycle routes, a bike tunnel under the Central Station and two special bridges for cyclists only. Three-quarters of the city’s burghers bike regularly, with over 37 percent using their bicycles to and from work or school.
