Secession, Doleantie and Union
1834-1892
by Bouma, Hendrik
Efforts toward reunion among Reformed and Presbyterian churches will succeed to the degree that the truths of Scripture, faithfully echoed by the Confessions, are truly experienced among God’s people by shaping their daily obedience and motivating their piety. These efforts will succeed, as they did in 1892, also to the degree that avoid elevating theological (and historical) differences to the level of the Confessions. Reformed and Presbyterian Church history is replete with examples of this tragic mistake. In this light, Bouma’s book is very relevant, also today.
