Following the disastrous Flood of 1953 (in Dutch simply referred to as De Ramp), Dutch hydraulic engineers implemented a series of giant public works to raise the coastal protection to new heights. The Delta works included higher dikes, dams, a new massive storm surge barrier system and bridges, combined with a highway system that linked islands with each other and opened up a previously isolated region. This cardboard building kit allows non-engineers and non-construction specialists to build their own miniature storm surge barrier and playfully learn the inside view of what many consider to be a modern world wonder. The paper model (quality light card stock) is rated for beginners. Instruction is in Dutch, French, German and English.
