When WWII broke out in Europe and the Nazis occupied their homeland, two Dutch families living in South Africa moved to the Netherlands East Indies to contribute to the defense of the colony. But two years later, they were caught up in the Pacific war when the Japanese occupied Java and nearly all of the other islands. The men in the two families became prisoners of war. The authors follows the two women for 4 years till they were reunited with their husbands and moved back to South Africa. Tjideng Reunion is told against the backdrop of the dramatic political and military events that unfolded around the 2 families and changed the course of their lives.
