Het Gereformeerden Boek
by Bouwman, Willem
About 375 photographs tell the story of the Reformed Christian community in the Netherlands. Although each of them, as the saying goes, is worth a thousand words, they still have a short, informative description, giving readers insight into the life of ‘de gereformeerde’ community. A newspaper reporter, the author introduces people and their stories, some nearly forgotten by now, but also others whose legacy is very much alive. As a community, ‘de gereformeerden’ emerged following their Secession in 1834 from the mainline Reformed Church. Another larger schism, ‘de Doleantie,’occurred in the 1880s, followed by the merger of 1892 by the vast majority of both groups. Included in the book is an item on a son of Doleantie-leader Abraham Kuyper, who left the Christian faith, as well as the Reformed minister of Bunschoten-Spakenburg who became a priest in the Roman Catholic Church. This book is for anyone wanting to know more about this community.
