Brown beans and apples
Bruine bonen met appeltjes

500 grams/1 lb. 2 oz. brown beans
4 tart apples
300 grams/11 oz. thick bacon
3 tbsp molasses or ‘stroop’
salt
Soak the washed brown beans overnight. Boil them in the same water (but add some salt) for about one hour until done. In the meantime, peel the apples and slice them in rings. Boil the slices in another pan for a few minutes. Add the apple slices to the beans, and mix in the molasses or ‘stroop.’ Gently fry the bacon until just crisp and put the bacon slices on top.
